TERASAKI ELECTRIC CO., LTD
A car carrier operated by NYK Line and equipped with the "TERASAKI Shore Connection" shore power supply system manufactured and marketed by TERASAKI ELECTRIC CO., LTD. (Head Office: Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Executive Officer: Taizo Terasaki; hereinafter "TERASAKI") has received shore power at the Ports of Zeebrugge, Belgium, and Bremerhaven, Germany. This marks the first time that a car carrier operated by NYK Line has utilized shore power while at berth. In addition, the shore power operation at the Port of Zeebrugge represents Belgium's first commercial shore power supply service for a RoRo vessel.
The Ports of Bremerhaven and Zeebrugge are recognized as two of Europe's leading finished vehicle logistics hubs and are attracting attention as pioneers in the deployment of shore power facilities for car carriers. For the shore power connection operations, engineers from TERASAKI and its group companies worked closely with port authorities, shipowners, and other relevant stakeholders to conduct shore power connection testing, coordinate ship-to-shore interfaces, and provide operational support. Through these efforts, TERASAKI contributed to the safe and reliable implementation of shore power operations. Leveraging experience gained from more than 350 vessel installations worldwide, TERASAKI enabled efficient coordination between vessels and newly commissioned shore power facilities while providing on-site commissioning support, ship-to-shore interface coordination, and operational assistance through its global service network. The project also demonstrated the stability and effectiveness of TERASAKI's shore power system and technical support services under actual operating conditions.

"TERASAKI Shore Connection" is a shore power supply system that enables vessels at berth to safely and easily utilize shore-side electricity. The system allows uninterrupted switching between onboard power and shore power, contributing to reduced operational workload and enhanced safety. In addition, by utilizing shore power while berthed, vessels can reduce the operating hours of their onboard generators, thereby lowering CO₂ emissions, reducing air pollutants such as NOx and SOx, and mitigating noise in surrounding port areas. The system also supports shipowners and port operators in addressing evolving environmental regulations and port decarbonization initiatives across Europe. The system complies with the IEC/IEEE 80005 series international standards, enabling compatibility with shore power facilities being developed at ports around the world. Recognized for its reliability and proven track record, TERASAKI Shore Connection has been adopted by more than 350 vessels worldwide, supporting maritime decarbonization and reducing environmental impact across the global shipping industry.
In Europe, including Belgium and Germany, TERASAKI is strengthening its shore power connection support services for shipowners, shipyards,
and port operators, primarily through its group company, TERASAKI ELECTRIC (EUROPE) Ltd. (TEE).
In addition, through collaboration with TERATEC USA in North America and local group companies in China,
TERASAKI provides services including shore power connection testing, interface coordination with port facilities,
and operational support. Through these efforts, TERASAKI is expanding its Global Shore Power Support Service,
providing customers with end-to-end assistance ranging from equipment supply and
commissioning to operational support.
Going forward, TERASAKI will continue expanding its global shore power support network
to help shipowners and port operators accelerate practical decarbonization initiatives and
ensure reliable shore power operations worldwide.
